It's safe to say that you're probably going a bit stir crazy, having been stuck at home the past couple of months. With summer just around the corner and lockdown restrictions gradually being lifted, now is a good time to start planning potential trips to take – when it's safe to do so, of course. Have you considered a visit to Cambridgeshire? If not here are some of the beautiful hotspots the county has to offer.

Cambridge

You can't talk about Cambridgeshire without mentioning the university city that has made it famous around the world. Cambridge is an idyllic spot, which pieces of history hiding around practically every corner. One of the best ways to discover the city is by punting. Whether you want to try it for yourself or let someone else steer the boat, it's such a relaxing way to spend a summer day and soak in the beautiful scenery.

Peterborough

Another stunning historical spot to explore in Cambridgeshire is the city of Peterborough. It offers a wonderful mixture of interesting heritage and lovely countryside – you can spend a happy weekend exploring everything it has to offer. No visit to Peterborough would be complete without paying a visit to its cathedral, which you can find in the heart of the city. Getting here couldn't be easier. You can get the train to Peterborough and travel in comfort.

Huntingdon

Did you know that Huntingdon was the birthplace of Oliver Cromwell? You can learn all about him in this town. Huntingdon, and its surrounding areas, offer a wide range of activities for you to choose from. A popular favourite is Houghton Mill, where you can hire a canoe and take the incredibly scenic route to St Ives, which is a two hour round trip. It's what peaceful summer days are made for, and you can admire the British countryside at its finest.

Ely

Did you know that Ely is the second smallest city in England? However, this doesn't mean you'll be short of things to do. Just like its neighbouring cities, there is so much history to discover – you can visit the cathedral or the national museum of stained glass. You can relax by the riverside with an ice cream and let your worries melt away. It's a charming city and because it's so small you can easily get around on foot.
